  • The city of Jingdezhen is known as “the porcelain capital of the world,” boasting a history of 1,700 years of ceramic making.

Today, Jingdezhen is a chaotic yet charming town, home to a myriad of small scale pottery workshops - often family-run enterprises - employing highly skilled artisans. While the old wood-burning kilns have been replaced by gas and electric kilns, the amazing skills of the potters have remained unchanged. These skills are apparent in each and every step of the production, from the making of the green ware – wheel thrown, moulded or slip cast – to the application of decorations – glazing, painting, enamelling.

These hand-painted tea caddies were commissioned by Larsen & Thompson from local artisans.
